Real Madrid fans react to possible change of venue for El Clasico

Real Madrid and Barcelona are set to meet next week, 26 October, at the Camp Nou.

But the situation in the city is not really ideal for such a huge derby to be played.

There have been a number of protests after the Supreme Court decided to jail nine of independence leaders earlier this week.

And since the Blaugrana have decided to officially support their Catalan people and have publicly declared that prison is not the answer, there are certain doubts over the safety of the players and the fans should El Clasico be played at the Camp Nou, in the heart of Catalonia.

La Liga have already tried changing the venue by swapping it between the two clubs, which would see the first derby played at Santiago Bernabeu instead of the Camp Nou.

Even though we are yet to receive an official confirmation, new reports are now stating that both clubs have since rejected the proposed solution.

Upon seeing the first update, however, many Real Madrid fans were simply not willing to accept the first Clasico to be played in Madrid instead of Barcelona.

Some even demanded Barcelona forfeit all three points to Los Blancos if they cannot host their team in their own ground.

QPR’s star Ilias Chair’s development has seen the loan system used at its very best

If you’re a fan of QPR, or you hold the London-based club close to your heart, you may have heard that the exciting, young midfielder Ilias Chair recently signed a new three-year contract.

The Morocco Under-23 international has enjoyed an excellent season under Mark Warburton so far, scoring one goal and recording two assists in all competitions as the R’s sit seventh in the Championship.

However, it hasn’t always been like this.

The 21-year-old wasn’t even at the Kiyan Prince Foundation Stadium last term, instead joining League Two side Stevenage on a season-long loan deal – it was with them where Chair thrived, and proved just how effective the loan system can be.

Chair signed for the R’s as a trialist following a successful audition in front of the Londoners, having previously played for Belgian side Lierse SK.

Given his relative unknown status, there was little chance of him immediately breaking into the first-team, so a sensible loan move to a side where he was presumably going to get regular football under his belt was a no brainer.

As well as getting a solid amount of game-time with 16 appearances, Chair managed to score six goals and also record six assists in League Two while wearing a Stevenage shirt.

Instead of dipping into the market for another midfielder – which would have been ignoring Chair’s bright progress – the R’s took heed of the Moroccan’s development and found him a place in the first-team, obtaining an impressive performer as well as saving themselves a bit of cash in the process.

In a time where players can sometimes find themselves even further down the pecking order after returning from a temporary move, QPR have used the loan system in an exemplary fashion and are currently reaping the rewards.

QPR’s Eberechi Eze a better fit for Tottenham than Wilfried Zaha

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Opinion series, which provides analysis, insight and opinion on any issue within the beautiful game, from Paul Pogba’s haircuts to League Two relegation battles…

There is quite clearly a model at Tottenham that Mauricio Pochettino follows closely.

Since leaving Southampton and stepping into the Spurs hotseat, the Argentine has primarily signed young players, or brought young players through from the academy into the first-team.

There are few ready-made superstars arriving on Tottenham’s doorstep, if any – only £55m man Tanguy Ndombele arguably fits that tagline and even the classy Frenchman is just 22 years of age.

Pochettino has developed academy prospects such as Kyle Walker-Peters and Oliver Skipp and arguably even Harry Kane, who wasn’t a first-team regular before the 47-year-old was appointed.

Dele Alli has also come on leaps and bounds under the Argentine, Giovani Lo Celso and Son Heung-min Son were both signed at the age of 23, Davinson Sanchez also arrived aged just 21 and teenage talents Ryan Sessegnon and Jack Clarke both completed permanent switches in the summer, with the latter immediately returning on loan to Leeds United.

The bottom line is that Spurs go for exciting talent over tailor-made stars.

In that respect, two reported transfer targets come into the equation with one far more suited to Spurs than the other.

QPR starlet Eberechi Eze – recently called up to the England U21 squad for the first time – is reportedly on Tottenham’s radar and scouts were said to have been sent to watch him in action last year.

Eze has three goals and two assists for the R’s this season under Mark Warburton in eight Championship appearances.

A player full of flair and flamboyance, his abilities are of a similar ilk to another London-based mercurial talent in Wilfried Zaha.

Both players possess great speed and technique on the ball, while both started to blossom in the Championship and honed their skills in the second tier – Eze with QPR, and Zaha with Crystal Palace before their promotion in 2013.

Eze is a real box of tricks but has substance as well as style – his flair-filled performances, which have merited five goals involvements in eight games, three WhoScored MOTM awards and a maiden England Under-21 call-up attest to that.

Zaha is also a man with plenty of skills under his belt, but another player who adds some substance to his play – Zaha scored 10 goals in the Premier League last year.

Like Eze, the Crystal Palace talisman was believed to be of interest to Spurs heading into the summer, but the Eagles value their No.11 highly and slapped a £100m price tag on his head this summer, which was said to have scared off Tottenham.

However, they should forget Zaha as Eze is the player most suited to the Tottenham model.

Zaha, as aforesaid, would cost a fair wedge of cash and is a ready-made superstar who presumably has little room left for improvement .

In Eze’s case, at just 21 and with the ability to play either on the left or right flank, as well as in the centre, he is almost perfect for Pochettino, who has used back fours, back threes, midfield diamonds and more during his time as Spurs boss. That versatility is a major asset.

Going back to the Tottenham model, we saw in Spurs’ failed pursuit of Grealish last summer as well as their interest in Hull City youngster Jarrod Bowen that exciting Championship starlets are most certainly on their radar.

Numerous top-four finishes and a trip to Madrid for the Champions League final last season prove that this model is moving in the right direction.

Given Eze’s obvious talent and his suitability to Spurs, he might just be a perfect alternative to Zaha.

Everton fans react to disappointing Djibril Sidibe debut

[ad_pod ]

Despite picking up a win and scoring four goals in the process, some Everton fans weren’t impressed with the performance of every player in the team.

Just seconds into his Everton debut, Djibril Sidibe was at fault for giving the ball away to a Lincoln player, who subsequently teed up his teammate to open the scoring.

And according to some fans, he failed to recover from the mistake.

Whilst some have taken into account the circumstances of his first game for a new club, others are worried about his future.

Indeed, some fans felt he reminded them of another massively underwhelming full-back at Goodison Park – Cuco Martina.

Sidibe joined on loan this month but with Seamus Coleman still occupying the right-back slot he was unable to get on the pitch prior to Wednesday night, and some fans think it is unlikely he will replace the Irishman any time soon.

There was some praise of Sidibe’s performance, but that acknowledgement has been shouted down in some quarters, with these Everton fans believing the right-back needs to do better.

Spurs fans hail Harry Kane after England hat-trick

[ad_pod ]

Tottenham Hotspur fans have hailed Harry Kane after he scored a hat-trick in England’s straightforward 4-0 win over Bulgaria on Saturday.

The Three Lions cruised to victory at Wembley against a team that rarely threatened to attack, let alone score.

Kane netted two penalties and a smart finish on the turn after being played in by Raheem Sterling to put Bulgaria to the sword.

He also played the part of creator, assisting Sterling’s goal, as Gareth Southgate’s men continued their 100% start to qualification for Euro 2020.

And Spurs fans were quick to praise the England skipper on Twitter after a rather quiet opening to the season.

While he has not been his hard-running self for Spurs, he has still scored three goals for the club this season, and supporters believe he is back in the groove after adding three more for his country.

Nottingham Forest fans react to report club isn’t pursuing Reece Oxford

[ad_pod ]

Nottingham Post journalist Paul Taylor said via his official Twitter account on Monday that Nottingham Forest have told him that they aren’t pursuing West Ham United starlet Reece Oxford despite reports to the contrary over the weekend, and Reds fans have been quick to react.

The Mirror reported on Sunday that the Championship play-off hopefuls were keen on a massive £8m move for the Irons outcast, who could leave the Premier League club before Thursday’s deadline.

However, Taylor says that Martin O’Neill’s men actually aren’t tracking the 20-year-old at all, with the Irishman still only completing a deal to sign Yohan Benalouane from Leicester City since replacing Aitor Karanka at the helm earlier this month.

Forest bounced back from defeat in the 66-year-old’s debut game in charge against Bristol City to beat Wigan Athletic 3-1 at The City Ground on Saturday, and they lie four points outside of the top six ahead of the transfer window slamming shut this week.

Nottingham Forest supporters took to social media to have their say on Taylor’s transfer update, and while one said they “don’t think we will be paying anywhere near that much for any player”, another said: “Pity. Type we should be after”.

West Ham fans react as Michail Antonio picks up injury problem

[ad_pod ]

Michail Antonio is seemingly facing a period on the sidelines with the attacker picking up what looked to be a hamstring injury in the early stages of West Ham United’s EFL Cup clash with Newport County on Tuesday night.

Indeed, Antonio pulled up in the early stages of the contest whilst breaking into a dangerous position, which led to Felipe Anderson being introduced.

The 29-year-old had impressed many of the West Ham fans with his performance off the bench in Saturday’s 3-1 win at Watford in the Premier League.

And it would be fair to say that a number of the club’s supporters were upset by the attacker’s enforced withdrawal in the eighth minute.

It remains to be seen how long the Englishman spends on the sidelines, but his injury has not gone down well with a number of the London club’s fans, who watched their side progress to the third round.

Palace fans react to Wells-Morrison report

Crystal Palace have rebuffed a ‘host’ of loan bids for youngster Jack Wells-Morrison, according to TEAMtalk.

‘A number’ of clubs in the second and third tier have approached Palace about taking Wells-Morrison on a temporary basis, among them London rivals Charlton Athletic.

But Patrick Vieira has ‘no intention of letting him go’ and instead wants to integrate him into the first team squad.

The lowdown on Jack Wells-Morrison

Wells-Morrison is predominantly a central midfielder but he can also play in slightly deeper or more advanced roles.

He’s still awaiting a senior debut for The Eagles, but he was named on the bench for Saturday’s FA Cup third round trip to Millwall.

Having scored eight goals in 24 appearances in the Under-18 Premier League, the 17-year-old earned a swift promotion to the Under-23s and has now racked up 15 PL2 outings (via Transfermarkt).

As noted by TEAMtalk, Morrison has been with the club for 11 years and his family are season-ticket holders at Selhurst Park.

Fan feed Palace Xtra relayed the news, and here’s what supporters made of it, with some feeling he could come into the first-team more next season when Conor Gallagher departs.

Gold reveals Traore twist at Spurs

Tottenham Hotspur appear to still be confident in securing Adama Traore despite the time it’s taking to get the deal over the line…

What’s the word?

That’s according to football.london reporter Alasdair Gold, who has hinted at there being a twist in the transfer saga heading into next Monday’s transfer deadline.

“Slightly different noises coming from all three sides of the Adama Traore transfer. Still a belief that it will happen eventually but it’s interesting to see the different takes on exactly what’s happened so far and that state it’s at right now,” he said on Twitter.

In an accompanying article, it’s claimed that Spurs are yet to make their move for Traore, despite reports of a £15m bid being rejected last week.

The expected move for the Spain international is being driven by sporting director Fabio Paratici, who tried to sign him during his time in charge of Juventus, whilst manager Antonio Conte is open to the signing as he fits the mould of that attacking right wing-back he desires.

There is a confidence that a deal can be struck before deadline day but the contrasting noises are certainly cause for concern for much of the Lilywhites faithful.

Twist in the tale?

It would be a travesty for the north London outfit to miss out on one of their reported top targets, especially as they have been linked with a move for him all month.

To leave it this late is bad enough but if they were to avoid signing him entirely, then it’s going to cause some uproar in both the Spurs dugout and in the stands.

[snack-amp-story url = “https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/tottenham-hotspur-thfc-spurs-transfer-rumours-gossip-conte-paratici-levy-updates” title=”Read the latest Spurs news, transfer updates and much, much more!”]

One outlet suggests £20m will be enough to secure him, whilst another believes Wolves are looking for a deal in the region of £30m. These are all intricacies that should have been dealt with earlier in the month because we’re now in the final five days of the window with nothing to show for it.

There have even been reported fears amongst some players at Hotspur Way that the Italian head coach, who has a Premier League and FA Cup to his name, will walk from the club if he’s not backed this window.

With Conte not trusting summer signing Emerson Royal in the right wing-back role, it would be wise to consider a move for one of the most “unplayable” threats in the division.

As this deal continues to rumble on, so will the fans’ anger as they too want to see their world-class head coach backed financially. The squad really needs some more quality and Traore would add that.

Big Fat Spurs Quiz of 2021 – can you get 100%?

It’s been one hell of a ride for Tottenham Hotspur supporters in 2021.

Jose Mourinho was sacked back in April after 17 months in charge and it’s another former Chelsea boss now at the helm in Antonio Conte.

He’s won a Premier League and FA Cup, so many around north London will be hoping he’s the man to finally end their barren 13-year wait for a piece of silverware.

Things do look up for the Lilywhites, however, as they have a real shot at finishing inside the top four for the first time in nearly three seasons – not bad for a side that has been through more managers than Harry Kane has Premier League goals this term.

Now Christmas is upon us, can you remember everything that has happened in what has been a whirlwind 12 months at Spurs?

Here are 15 questions that only the most die-hard fans will be able to answer. Think you can get more than ten right? We bet you can’t…
